On 22 May 2020, a webinar on the International Day for Biological Diversity, spreading awareness on how the ongoing pandemic is nothing but a
pandemic of mistreated biodiversity, was conducted by the students of class XII of St. Thomas' School in continuation with the webinar 'Bliss
of Reviving Nature' conducted on 21 May 2020 by the students of class XI wherein how nature revives itself while humans are cornered was
centrally discussed.
The chief guests of the event, Dr. Sudip Sen, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at AIIMS and Dr. Indrakant K. Singh, working in
Deshbandhu College, DU and chief researcher in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, were introduced followed by a brief introduction on
the topic ' Covid-19 or The Pandemic of Mistreated Biodiversity'.
Subsequently, a presentation was given on the respective topic which elucidated the meaning and origin of Covid-19, correlating it with the previous
outbreaks of SARS and MERS. The reasons for the pandemic, namely changes in land use and hunting of wild animals were discussed with the help of pictures,
videos and narration. The theme for International Biodiversity day 2020, "Our Solutions Are In Nature" was central to the discussion. Furthermore, a
discussion on various vaccines and some common myths about coronavirus along with a discussion on global and local prevention took place.
The lectures at the end of the presentation given by the honourable guests added to our insight. The session taught everyone how every action can have
serious repercussions which is proven by the fact that Covid-19 is nothing but a Pandemic of Mistreated Biodiversity as humans have always taken biodiversity
for granted. The webinar was a success as everyone acquired knowledge with a distinct perspective along with a fragment of humour.
