Our journey begun at 5am. On entering Jaipur, we pulled over at the famous Amer Palace, built in the 14th century by Raja Man Singh. The Amer Palace is set picturesque and rugged hills is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Though the building is old and may even look so from the outside, it is beautiful on the inside and boasts of various buildings of prominence like the Diwan-i-aam, Sheesh Mahal and the Sukh Mahal. Our next destination was to a town situated 16km south of Jaipur called Sanganer. It is famous for its block printing and handmade paper industry. Within the industry was a small complex where we shopped for a few lovely things like diaries, jewellery boxes, lamp shades and gift cards. Floral and block printing are also a specialty with the Sanganer block printers and artisans. The prints manufactured at Sanganer are extremely popular and unique in design, making it the best made all over India. On the second day, we proceeded to a small village called Chakramsir. The inhabitants of the village were very warm and welcoming. We visited the Anganwadi where young children were taught and looked after by middle aged woman of the village. We then had an hour long interacting session with the village Panchayat. We inquired them about the issues raised by the villagers and the demographic structure of the village. They not only willingly answered our questions but the sarpanch also invited us to join his family for lunch. And of course how can we miss the vast green fields along with the tractor, camel ride. Later that evening, we were taken to a famous Rajasthani village resort called Chokhi Dhani. On the last day, we paid a visit to the Arch Academy of Design set up by our school alumna, Ms. Archana Surana. We were awestruck with the art and skill surrounding the academy in the fields of fashion, interior, jewellery, graphic designing and visual arts. We were made to do an insightful and creative activity of crafting items of daily use with newspapers. It was a great learning experience for each one of us!
